Olympic Fever

I seriously can't get enough of the Olympics. I don't remember a time when I was this excited about sports. Actually, that's not true. The Jayhawks won the Orange Bowl AND the National Championship this year. Nothing will ever come close to that. But I'm telling you, this is a raw kind of enthusiasm that just comes out of nowhere.

Like when I woke up on Saturday morning screaming, "THE OLYMPICS ARE ON!" I even surprised myself. It takes several hours and a good pot of coffee to make me pleasant in the morning. Saturdays are generally reserved for sleep until at least 11:00. But I could have been 5 years old watching cartoons the way I ran down the stairs and poured myself a bowl of cereal. I had my favorite blanket, my remote, and I was settled in for some serious entertainment. It was 8:30 in the morning.

Of course, it helps that we can tune in to any one of our five (six?) HD channels and instantly watch Michael Phelps break a world record, but since when did I care about Trap shooting, Women's Light Sculls, and Equestrian events?

It's been that way all week. We've exhausted ourselves trying to watch every evening of Prime Time so we don't miss a potential moment of American history. And we're not even a full week in yet!! We still have track and field, rhythmic gymnastics, water polo and (my favorite) synchronized swimming!!

I scream, I jump around, I cry when they play the National Anthem, I throw my hands in the air with patriotic glee...it's just exciting! I'm hooked! And I'm going to be sad when the Olympics are over.
